Boscastle Floods

Most buildings, such as this 500 year old cottage, were repaired within a couple of years.
The floodwaters had subsided, only to reveal a new problem; rebuilding an entire village.

Though the lower bridge survived the 12 car blockage, its stone walls were not so lucky. After much discussion, it was eventually decided that the bridge should be replaced for safety reasons.
The new bridge was originally planned to be a stone bridge like its predecessor, but this idea was abandoned after locals expressed disinterest. A second idea of a modern concrete bridge was also shot down after locals voted for a less complex design during a village meeting.
Eventually the new bridge, based on an older style but made of concrete and metal railings, was unveiled in December 2007 just a few metres away from the old bridge (which was demolished a few months later in April).
